Overview
Westpac needed an internal procurement buying experience that could connect a Shopify-powered product catalogue with Coupa, the procurement platform used by internal teams. Growth Digital delivered the Shopify development and PunchOut integration using PunchOut Link, creating a secure B2B purchasing flow that lets approved users move from Coupa into the storefront, build a cart, and return the order details back into Coupa for requisition and approval.
The problem
Enterprise procurement teams need more than a standard ecommerce checkout. Internal users must be able to browse approved products, keep catalogue and cart data aligned, and complete the purchase through the organisation’s procurement controls. For this project, the storefront needed to work with Coupa’s PunchOut workflow rather than sending users through a normal Shopify checkout, while still keeping the buying experience simple for staff and maintainable for the ecommerce team.

Our approach
We treated the project as both a Shopify build and a procurement integration. The work focused on mapping the buyer journey from Coupa into Shopify, configuring PunchOut Link as the integration layer, and shaping the storefront so internal users could search, browse, add items to cart, and return the cart data to Coupa cleanly. Particular care went into the handoff points: session launch, catalogue access, cart transfer, requisition data and approval-ready order details.
The solution
Growth Digital developed the Shopify experience and connected it to Coupa through PunchOut Link, giving Westpac’s internal users a procurement-friendly path that feels like ecommerce but respects enterprise purchasing controls. Instead of completing payment in Shopify, users can assemble the required cart and send it back into Coupa, where the requisition and approval process continues inside the bank’s internal procurement environment.
- Shopify storefront development for an internal B2B procurement use case
- PunchOut Link configuration for Coupa-compatible catalogue access
- Procurement session flow from Coupa into the Shopify storefront
- Cart return workflow designed for Coupa requisition and approval
- Structured product and cart data handoff for enterprise purchasing
- Private-platform implementation without exposing internal screens or data
The results
The finished integration gives Westpac’s internal users a cleaner way to access a Shopify catalogue from inside Coupa, build an approved procurement cart, and continue the order through established internal controls. For the business, the project created a more scalable B2B ecommerce foundation: product data can live in Shopify, procurement governance remains in Coupa, and PunchOut Link provides the bridge between both systems.
